Weld quality verification is a fundamental inspection requirement across structural steel fabrication, pressure vessel manufacture, and pipeline construction. Our ultrasonic flaw detector range from Sonatest covers entry-level portable instruments through to advanced field units with encoded B-Scan, A-Scan display, and Dryscan capability for composite inspection. For surface and near-surface crack detection on ferromagnetic components, our magnetic particle inspection range includes the A2 Lightweight Yoke for AC field generation and the MTU-3 ISO 9934-2 Reference Block Type 1 for daily MPI system verification. Both UT and MPI are complementary methods covering different defect types and orientations.
Wall thickness measurement is one of the most broadly applicable inspection tasks across manufacturing, maintenance, and asset integrity work. Our ultrasonic thickness gauge range covers three product families suited to different requirements. The Dakota CMX series is designed specifically for corrosion monitoring on steel structures, pipework, and vessels, with simultaneous material and coating thickness measurement in a single pass. The CX series provides precision thickness measurement across metals, plastics, and ceramics for manufacturing QC applications. The ZX series offers simplified operation, a 914mm measurement range, and a 45-hour battery life for extended field use. The full Cygnus range is also available for through-coating multiple-echo measurement with endorsement from DNV, Bureau Veritas, and Lloyd's for marine and offshore applications.
Hardness testing in a manufacturing or fabrication environment covers a range of material types and inspection scenarios, and no single method addresses all of them. For general metals and structural steel, our Leeb rebound tester range includes the QualiTip II-Plus, QualiTip+ D, and QualiTip III with integrated printer for on-site documentation. For thin sections, coatings, carburized and nitrided surfaces, and finished components where Leeb would penetrate the coating and read the substrate, our UCI range includes manual and motorised options with dual UCI and Leeb capability in a single instrument. For aluminium fabrication and extrusion, the Webster Model B is the established method. For fiberglass, composites, and rigid plastics, the Barcol QualiHBA is available in standard and scale-conversion configurations. All instruments meet ASTM A956 or equivalent standards where applicable.
Surface roughness verification is a routine QC requirement across machining, valve and pump maintenance, precision components, and pipe inspection. Our surface roughness tester range covers portable instruments from the TR-200 Plus with 20 roughness parameters, through to the QualiSurf II with 45 parameters and a touchscreen interface. For applications requiring internal bore or pipe surface measurement where the main unit cannot fit, the QualiSurf II-S provides an external probe with extended cable and magnetic base fixture for stable measurement inside confined geometries. Results are recorded to USB and are compatible with standard reporting formats.
Magnetic particle inspection is the established method for detecting surface-breaking and near-surface cracks on ferromagnetic materials - welds, castings, forgings, and machined components. Our MPI range includes the A2 Lightweight Yoke for generating an AC magnetic field, suited to weld inspection in fabrication workshops and field maintenance environments. The MTU-3 ISO 9934-2 Reference Block Type 1 is the standard daily system verification tool used to confirm that the MPI medium, lighting, and field strength are performing correctly before inspection begins. Both items are used together as part of any compliant MPI inspection programme under AS 1710.
Protective coating systems on steel structures, concrete surfaces, and building facades need to be verified for adhesion as part of any coating inspection programme. Our QualiPAT pull-off adhesion tester applies a perpendicular tensile load to a bonded dolly using a self-aligning hydraulic head, eliminating the angle-induced errors that affect manual mechanical testers. Results are displayed in MPa or psi, stored internally, and exported directly to Excel via USB without requiring additional software. Four dolly sizes cover general coatings on steel, high-bond epoxy systems, concrete and wood substrates, and applications on very small surface areas. The instrument meets ASTM D4541 and ISO 4624.
