The UCI-4100DH is a versatile, portable hardness tester built around a dual testing approach - combining ultrasonic contact impedance (UCI) and dynamic rebound (Leeb) in one instrument. This gets around the usual limitations of each method alone: Leeb doesn't handle plating and coating hardness well (UCI's strength), while UCI struggles with coarse crystal materials in casting (Leeb's strength).
Since the UCI-4100DH works with UCI manual probes and Leeb impact probes alike, it covers fine and coarse crystal structures across the metal industry. Its UCI probe system is particularly good with coatings and platings - chrome, copper plating, carburized layers, and nitriding layers among them.
For coarse materials like castings and forgings, the dynamic Leeb probe system takes over. And as a non-destructive testing (NDT) hardness tester, its deliberately small contact indentation makes it well suited to precision work on finished products - molds, gears, shafts, rods, screws, and rails.
