The Dynasonic Ultrasonic Hardness Tester UCI-4000 is a versatile portable hardness tester built around a dual testing method - combining ultrasonic contact impedance (UCI) and dynamic rebound (Leeb) in a single instrument.
This pairing gets around a limitation each method has on its own: Leeb struggles to assess plating and coating hardness (where UCI excels), while UCI has trouble with coarse crystal materials common in casting (where Leeb excels).
The UCI-4000 works with both UCI motorized and manual probes, as well as the Leeb impact probe, so it can handle materials with fine or coarse crystal structures alike across the metal industry.
Its UCI probe system is particularly good at measuring the hardness of coatings and platings - chrome, copper plating, carburized layers, and nitriding layers among them. The dynamic Leeb probe system, meanwhile, is built for coarse materials like castings and forgings.
As a non-destructive testing (NDT) hardness tester, the UCI-4000 works well for finished products - molds, gears, shafts, rods, screws, and rails - since the contact indentation it leaves is too small to notice.
It complies with industry standards including ASTM A1038-2005 and DIN 50159-1-2008.
